Cancer is an illness that affects everyone. It does not discriminate based on race, gender, or religion. Whether it directly or indirectly, everyone knows someone who has had cancer. One type of cancer that affects many is breast cancer. One out of eight women in there lifetime will have breast cancer. About 39,8040 women are expected to die from breast cancer this year. This is a very sensitive topic for me because my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was thirteen. Luckily, it was caught early and she survived. The process was a slow emotional journey for not just my mother but also my family. What I am going to talk about in my speech is:

- The Statistics and Risks
-And what people can do to help.
With more research, due to an increased amount of funding, women and men diagnosed with cancer will be able to have a greater chance of surviving this terrible predicament.

Kara, my mom had breast cancer as well so this topic is always one that hits home for me. In terms of the speech, make sure that it's not a repetition of the awareness campaign or the messages from the Komen Foundation. Find your own voice and make the topic relevant. What can we realistically do to help from where we are sitting? Is it enough to have awareness or so we need to ACT upon the cause in order to support it? If that's the case, what recommendations do you have for us to join the cause?
