As an average college student, what is the number one fast food service when you are hungry and want to save money? The famous golden arch that is found never more than 107 miles away within another arch, McDonalds! I'm not going to deny that McDonalds has one of the best deals on the market, the Dollar Menu; but it is certainly not the healthiest choice.
Have you ever wondered what is the meat in your Big Mac? Did you know that McDonalds burgers are able to outlast normal burgers by 2+ weeks? In the documentary Super Size Me (2004), Morgan Spurlock was able to test and prove that fact. Spurlock even became part of the experiment by consuming a strictly McDonalds diet for 30 days. At the end of the experiment not only did Spurlock gain an incredible amount of weight, but he also added a couple of health complications upon himself.
Ok, what about how the McNuggets are made? Just to refresh your memory, in November of 2007 a lady found a whole fried chicken head within her daughter's McNuggets. How do you miss a chicken head with beak, eyes and comb still entact during inspection?! McDonalds, like other fast food services definitely have poor quality in food in comparison to restaurants.
Like I stated before, each McDonalds can be found no farther than 107 miles away from each other. Americans have such easy access to fast food that they began to rely on it rather than choosing actual healthy nutritious meals.
In my persuasive speech I will focus on:
- health issues
- quality of food
- reliance on fast food
Fast food places like McDonalds are the reason why Americans are known to be fat.

This is a popular topic and with all the ongoing obsession with weight loss and healthy lifestyles, it's relevant. I want to make sure that you don't give a speech that we've all already heard, so make sure you pick a new and unique angle to deliver your speech on. I'd focus very strongly on the fact that the Dollar Menu is SO accessible to people with less means including -- the poor, college students, etc. and it is a way to exploit the economic situation of many Americans... I wouldn't focus on the fact that the dollar menu is affordable but unhealthy, we all know that. But we might be more persuaded to stay away from the Dollar Menu if you tell us that it's one way McDonald's is manipulation its customers.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your stance. McDonalds offers cheap, tasty, and convenience food, but at the expense of public health. The fast food industry is one of the major reasons why there's a major obesity epidemic in America.
