Hi class! Hope you are having a great weekend. Just wanted to send some notes and make some announcements:
About your group leadership posts
- Always make sure you address the given questions / prompts, at some point at least.
- Never feel like you have to tell us EVERYTHING, remember to find your angle and if you *do* feel like we should read more information about your topic but it’s too long for you to elaborate on your post… LINK us to it!
- Never forget the blog requirements, remember that I grade all of your post based on those things.
- Finally, always remember that ALL humans have flaws, even great leaders. Our flaws are what make us humans and worthy of admiration in the first place.
Also, since this post was not a scheduled assignment, what I’m doing it making it count as FIVE comments. We are entering our seventh week of commenting, so if you fell behind some weeks, you now have five of those back. And if you need a week off, you now have some cushion. I’m going to re-work the grade book so that you can see where you are in the “blog comments” department.
About your guest speaker reflections
Great job! So glad you were all able to take so much away from Ernesto’s presentation. Ernesto shared this on the Facebook group, but here it is for all to see – watch as Joaquin Phoenix uses Ernesto’s “trick of the trade” and makes awkward silence work for him so that he doesn’t have to talk or respond to questions and makes David Letterman talk for him.

Post-midterm
I will email your interview questions back this weekend. Once you have those in your power, go ahead with scheduling your interviews. You don’t have to stick to the 10 questions, those are just so that all the member of your group will ask at least some of the same questions to your individual interviewees and have something to compare when you come back together to work on the class session.
As of Friday, October 22, we will do impromptu speeches in class based on the topics you submitted at the beginning of the semester. We will do three each class and give each other feedback on how to improve. Be prepared mentally!
I remember seeing this video before on YouTube, Joaquin's silence just forces Letterman to fill the awkward silences, all to the amusement of the audience. I love the quip at the end from Letterman, "And Joaquin, I'm sorry you couldn't be here tonight"

ReplyDeleteIs Joaquin really like this? That's pretty crazy if the whole thing wasn't a joke, how could someone who's an actor get away with acting like that!?! Otherwise, very entertaining clip!
ReplyDeleteI had seen this video a while ago too... when he first "lost it." The difference with watching it this time around is that if you're watching it from YouTube and you look at the "related" videos on the right-hand side... you'll find videos of him performing... For REAL.
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious. I can only imagine how awkward it must have been and it only testifies to Letterman's skill as an interviewer. Is he doing this on purpose for comedy purposes or what?
