Entrepreneurship and Communication

Communication Topic: How to effectively pitch an entrepreneurial idea to potential investors in a rapidly changing communication environment.

We believe this topic is important because communication is an essential part of entrepreneurship. If an entrepreneur can't effectively communicate his ideas to potential investors, then his idea, regardless of how brilliant it may be, may never come to fruition. Now, with modern communication changing rapidly as a result of the explosion of the internet, the pitching process has become even more delicate and complex a matter. Some investors are interested in seeing entrepreneurs utilize different modes of communication, like Twitter, whereas others perceive the use of such tool as lazy or unprofessional. Despite the medium used, specific communication skills need to be honed in order for an effective pitch to take place.

  1. We should definitely stop by the Dingman Center at the business school where it is their sole job to listen to business pitches and decide whether to sponsor them. I think this would be a huge first step in our research process and they could definitely help us find someone to interview. I am actually really excited guys!

  2. This is fantastic. Love the topic. It's extremely relevant because the web has bred an entire new generation of entrepreneurs who are launching startups at low (or no) overhead costs in order to meet the needs of a whole new market. I'm very familiar with venture capitalists, angel investors, and the importance of the perfect elevator pitch.

I would check out Dave McClure. He is a BIG name in angel investing and online startups. He is harsh. A poor pitch to him, would be the end of the world for an entrepreneur.

    Looking forward to it guys!
