The Face Behind the Book
Who knew that a book could obtain over 500 million fans, which seventy percent of come from outside the United States of America? Not only do these subscribers read its pages over "700 billion minutes per month," but also contribute as authors, editors, and meticulous followers. Some users even say that the phenomenon added an intricate layer to the way humanity interacts.The book: Facebook. But, more importantly the maker, Mark Zuckerberg, has much to teach us.
In the same undergraduate college status as many participants in this blog activity, Mr. Zuckerberg took an incredible risk; he dropped out of school to pursue the development of his concept. Coming from humble origins, Mark ended up developing the most versatile and expansive social networking tool the world has ever seen. To fully comprehend the extent of his personal perseverance, one must trace back to his years as a Harvard undergraduate student developing the idea. An examination of his hardships in buying people into his concept and building the groundworks and platform for his empire is also necessary. Finally, a short analysis of his accomplishment in constructing that empire and its influence on us as member of the technological age brings his achievements in perspective.

Mark, I'm obviously interested in your topic right off the bat, but you also made a great choice in selecting a timely and relevant topic to present to the class -- the life of someone who has influenced our generation from "behind the scenes" more than many other entrepreneurs.
ReplyDeleteJust make sure that you *inform* us about Zuckerberg's entrepreneurial challenges and accomplishments during this speech. For your *persuasive* speech later in the semester, you are more than welcome to build upon this speech and comment on Zuckerberg's and Facebook's influence on us and society at large.

And despite the fact that I don't like Zuckerberg on a personal / character level... here is my favorite quote from the article,
"This is the sort of philanthropy that we see from the likes of Warren Buffett and Bill Gates; frankly, it's amazing to have someone else with the ability to contribute at that level to that field."
Great job with your speech, Mark! This is a topic I am interested in but knew little about before your speech. I can' wait to go see The Social Network and Catfish--very good timing on your part!
