A Successful Pitch: Due to Successful Group Communication

From the beginning, from the moment we were all assigned to our group, everyone in my group stepped up. Everyone had something to say and everyone was respectful. We knew we had a lot of work ahead of us and everyone was ready to put in his or her full effort to accomplish our overall goal. This goal could not have been accomplished individually, but only in this group dynamic. The first step in forming this group and keep it together was exchanging contact information that first class.

In creating a coherent and well-flowing presentation, our group had to go through the steps of norming. We did not plan a concrete agenda, but each of us had his or her own issues that they needed to address. We communicated through text messages to assure that everyone knew when the next meeting was and who was attending. After the first meeting at Stamp, as part of the agenda, everyone was assigned a part of the presentation to focus on.

When different group tensions usually arise during storming, the next phase of group operations, we stayed not only very outspoken (instantly disregarding the initial awkwardness), but we all respected each other. Even though there were facilitators in the group, there was no power struggle because we all saw each other’s as equals. There were no complaints on any one’s part; everyone was compliant. Even if a concern was raised, without a set agenda, everyone’s opinions were respected and addressed. I am sure that the quality of this project is a testament of how well our group functioned and that we all individually benefited from this group dynamic. Our group conforming was followed by a great performance where we all did our part to contribute to the overall goal.

In terms of my contributions to the group, I helped stir up ideas and discussion about different components and angles we would take in our presentation. During our discussions, which were interactive and during which everyone contributed, I helped take ideas that my fellow group-mates proposed and logically assessed them. My job was not only thought provoker, but also general contributor of ideas. I also brought my own ideas to the discussion and allowing for groupthink and critical analysis by everyone. This is a huge advantage of a group dynamic because every idea was well thought out, constructively criticized, and improved upon by all the members of the group. Looking back on our group presentations, I am extremely proud of the way our group quickly got organized and completed the task at hand.
