Question number 3

On the midterm I thought I did pretty well but obviously not! I was so confident in my answer's, especially number 3, but perhaps I shouldn't have had such a big head in answering these questions. Question number 3 asked "Phrases such as, "like" or "um" that diminish rather than enhance the effectiveness of communication are examples of:

A.) Slang

B.) Inarticulates

C.) Doublespeak

D.) Distorted language

Me thinking I was so right and had this question locked down, I chose answer D (distorted language). When I looked back and reflected on it, I felt extremely dumb, because the obvious answer is answer B ( Inarticulates). Inarticulates are words such as "um", "like", and "uh". We use these inarticulates mostly when we are publicly speaking because we are out of our comfort zone.
