Persuasive Speech Topic: Economic Future of Africa

Many people consider giving aid and being charitable as a good value. For about half of the world's population, religion decrees that its followers must be generous in giving to those less fortunate than themselves. Yet in the past few decades, the media has over-sensationalized the idea of giving money to developing nations in Africa. While the billions of dollars in foreign aid helps, it also prevents long-term economic growth. My goal is to convince listeners that foreign aid is, in fact, a detriment to Africa's growth and a root cause of its sustained poverty. In reality, micro-loans and economic trade agreements are more likely to help the impoverished than monetary donations.
